The "warm and welcoming " hospitality of "wonderful hosts "Jacques and Olga de Quillien coupled with "real, rural " classic French comfort food" (plus spectacular desserts" will transport you to the South of France" without the snobbery"-at this "cozy" Balboa Penninsula "gem" of a bistro; its "relaxed atmosphere" and "amazingly fair prices" make locals "want to linger", and regulars report it "seems to improve with every visit".
“For once, the area has a French restaurant geared to French sensibilities. Pescadou Bistro is uncompromisingly French, casual and just plain fun. Though last year’s ownership change occasioned plenty of superficial changes, new owner Olga de Quillien is the sister of the original owner, and she has maintained the spirit and culinary sensibilities for which the restaurant originally became known. Provençal fare such as rabbit in mustard sauce, roast duck and lobster bisque is honest, hearty and delicious. If you’re looking for value, the $20 prix-fixe menu can’t be beat.”
“French Flair”
This restaurant serves French food that everyone can sink their teeth into. The hospitality here is amazing and the decor is warm and inviting, with rich colors and soft materials used. The clientele ranges from the Newport Beach elite to southern California trendsters.
Lobster bisque, bouillabaisse, sardines in mustard sauce, frog legs, foie gras, rack of lamb and sauteed vegetables are just some of the bistro classics you will find on this menu. Beer and wine are mostly served by the glass.”

“Olga de Quillien managed to assume ownership of this popular Newport Beach eatery from her brother, renovate the front and back of the house, and completely revamp the menu in a remarkably short time span. By the time locals completed their summer, 2003 vacations, the restaurant had quietly closed, gotten a facelift and reopened its doors. Now sporting a glossier version of its original French country motif, complete with new furnishings and a refurbished kitchen, it continues to satisfy South County palates with reasonably priced Provencal fare. The prix-fixe menu, which offers three courses for just under $20, is still one of the best deals in town. After starting with soup or salad, diners can select from a number of traditional French Provencal dishes such as rabbit in mustard sauce, roast duck and beef bourguignonne. Homemade desserts such as creme brulee and fresh-baked fruit pie wrap up the meal in satisfyingly sweet style. The a la carte menu offers all the same choices plus pricier selections such as steak with pommes frites and bouillabaisse. All in all, the new-and-improved Pescadou feels comfortably similar to the Pescadou of yore -- and it helps that ownership actually remains in the family”.
“Fortunately for Orange County residents, there's a truly enjoyable one right across the street from the Newport Beach City Hall, and it fills that gap - economically, culturally, gustatorially - with casual aplomb.”

“Despite its location—in a storefront across from Newport Beach City Hall—Pescadou manages to impart a south-of-France feel with vibrant colors and eclectic table settings. You’ll find traditional French dishes—frog legs and coq au vin—as well as such bistro fare as rib-eye steak, bouillabaisse and a variety of fish dishes”
